Interleaved Bible Review

We recently released a new Bible text style which hasn’t been in print from any publisher in many years – the Interleaved Bible. The name of it lends itself to an accurate description of the layout. A lined page has been added between each page of Scripture and makes it versatile for multiple types of Bible readers – those that enjoy prayer journaling, taking within their Bibles, word studies and sermon outlines, etc.

For this review, I am going to work my way from the outside structure of the Bible inward. There are three different leather series available for the Interleaved text style. The Corporate Series is made of an Ironed Calfskin and lined with a synthetic liner. The finish on this style of leather has a smooth, almost glossy feel to it, however, a small amount of grain remains visible giving a small amount of texture to the cover. The Redeemer Series is made of Lambskin leather and also lined with a synthetic liner. The texture of this cover style is what many have come to describe as “smooth, buttery, and supple”. This is a softer leather, but its richness is readily identified with one touch. The Platinum Series is made of a Water Buffalo leather and lined with Cowhide leather. This is truly a favorite of the bindery and our customers because of the quality and craftsmanship of the covers. This is a thicker, yet more supple leather than any other leather series available in our inventory. The Platinum Series has been dubbed the “hardworking” leather line of CBP by customers because of the structure of the thick, yet flexible leather cover.

All of our leather bound Bibles are handcrafted, lined to edge, and have 5 raised hubs on the spine. There are the identifying stamps on the spine such as “Holy Bible”, “Authorized King James”, and the publisher name of “CBP”. Each Bible has a Smyth-sewn spine for strength and flexibility. Our Bibles are printed and bound in the USA.

The Interleaved Bible shown above has two blue, ¼” wide ribbon markers. The ribbons have been measured and cut at such a length as to leave a small amount to hold onto for pulling towards the corner of the Bible when opening to the previously marked spot. There are blue and white head and foot bands. These have been added to the spine of the Bible to add security to the glued edge of the ribbon on the spine (head) and complete the aesthetic look of the Bible (foot).

The Presentation and Family pages of the Bible are printed in color on thicker paper. The Family record pages include the husband and wife, children, marriages, grandchildren, and deaths. We have also included the Translators to the Reader preface and the Epistle Dedicatory of James.

The paper we have had this text style printed on is a 22 lb. paper (33 gsm). The paper is white and quite opaque (especially for being a 22lb paper). The edges of the Bible pages are art gilded with a silver foil and a darker dye underneath. We have typeset the lined pages closer to a college ruled sizing along with reducing the line print intensity to help your notes stand out darker than the lines provided. Extra note pages have been given at the end of the Bible. As always we suggest trying any pens, highlighters, etc. on those pages before using them throughout the rest of the text.

The text has been typeset to a size similar to the 9 point font size of a Times New Roman font style. This printing gave us a sharp and easy to read printed text that is consistent throughout the entire Bible. One thing of importance to mention here is that the Words of Christ are not in red letter. The margins of this Bibles are as follows: Bottom – 0.5″, Inside – 0.375″, Outside – 1.125″, Top – 0.5″.

Lastly, there are 15 beautifully color printed maps which have been printed on the same thicker paper as the presentation pages. A map index has also been printed and is located just before the maps.

If you enjoy adding longer sermon notes, journaling, or even adding artwork to your Bibles this would be an ideal text style for you.
